More History. . .

The Country School closest to Block's Point

The picture above is the old Country School that was located at the now County Road 4 and 475th intersection. . .this can also be seen on the plat map on the top of the Blog Page. This is all the information I could find on this. . .I do know that this was the school many attended locally. . .My Aunt Joy (Larson) Edwards attended when she was 6 years of age before they moved to Mankato, MN.

History - Original land owner

Back in 1885 owner of record for this parcel of land was John Anderson, later owned by Currier followed by Fred Block which the point was named after.

The homestead Block's farm was built, both the house and the barn using the saw mill located in the woods on the point with the barn having to be rebuilt in the mid 30's after a fire burned it to the ground. See the plat drawing detailing the saw mill location.

The Swan Lake Pavilion

The Swan Lake Pavilion on the A. H. Hermel farm in Granby Township in Nicollet County was a popular place for dancing, wedding receptions and for Saturday night enjoyment from 1920 until it was demolished in 1935.

See the plat map at the top of the page highlighted with the purple rectangle for location of the Swan Lake Pavilion.

Located just North from the County Poor Farm on County Road 3 which is now County Road 4, near the "Old Fort Road" now County Road 5, had many well known bands perform there. . .Lawrence Welk and his band (in his early years) "The Biggest Little Band in America" stopped and performed here three times in this time period.
